the love of God

Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made

Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade

To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry

Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Tho stretched from sky to sky

From our worship celebration yesterday. Just lovely ♥

the man inside

O, my heart! The sweetlings are outside running like mad, playing and laughing and having such fun. Samuel's soccer season gears back up this week, and he is so excited! The girls have decided to help him get fit and set to play, so they are all out there on mission.

I glanced up just a moment ago as Samuel was running by the glass door. In that moment I saw just a glimpse of the young man he will become in way too few years from now (mere seconds, it seems). There was a tall and striking young man, lean and quick and full of joy, so beautiful to my eyes, and so grown up.

In the next moment my freckle-faced ten year old sweetling was back and grinning widely at me through the door making faces and sound effects to go with his silly grin.

I am pausing just to take a breath and say a prayer for the man my precious boy will become, is becoming. The deepest hopes of my heart come pouring to mind as tears fill my eyes, and I whisper thanks and blessings and praise for the gift of his days ♥

to walk

"When I open wide my hands to the truth of my life and allow the Father's grace and forgiveness to seep into the pain of my story, I can lift my face, walk in His grace and forgiveness, and not dwell on bitter moments that hurt so desperately. It never discounts the pain. But the redemption of my hard yesterdays gives me a softened heart to walk in my tomorrows."

Just this ♥

of wishes and legos

We have been studying the book of Daniel at CBS this year, and the children have been discussing what they are learning. Yesterday their conversation turned to Christ's return.

Overheard yesterday afternoon...

S: I wish Jesus would come back in two seconds from right now!
M&I: That would be so cool.
I: Can you imagine? Everything all bright and shiny, and here He is!
S: Yeah!
MSI: (not together, but all saying something like):
I am so ready for Him to get here!

S: Oh, and even better! You know what would just be the best?
I would give all of my Legos and every one I would wish for
for all the rest of my life if Jesus came back on Christmas morning.
That would be the best present ever!

M&I: Awesome!
I: And we woke up on Christmas morning and came down to the
tree and the sky started to shine, and there was Jesus! And He came
to get us by the Christmas tree. Wonder if He might do that?

M: I wonder when He really will come...

precisely why

Conversation with Ila today as she discovered me at my desk cutting out a picture...

I: Hey, Mom! What's that?
Q: It's a picture with a note that I just found.
I: What's it for?
Q: Can you guess?
I: Oooooo! OK...

I: I know! It's for your encouragement wall, right?
Q: It is! How did you know?
I: Because I know you, Mommy. I watch you and I see you,
and I know you.

O my heart ♥

...the beauty of the earth
the glory of the skies

the love which from our birth over and around us lies

...the wonder of each hour of the day and of the night

hill and vale and tree and flower
sun and moon and stars of light

...the joy of human love: brother, sister, parent, child
friends on earth and friends above

all gentle thoughts and mild

...You, best Gift divine to us so freely given

that great, great love of Thine

peace on earth and joy in heaven

Lord of all, to Thee we raise this
our hymn of grateful praise.

Struck here by the wonder of each hour. The way He lives and breathes and loves. His attention to our lives - even to the very moments of them - and again His great, great love.

Bearing witness to the things He has done: a covenant, answers, time, snow days, joy and peace. So many ways He has met us where we are with His best just in the last few days ♥

the whole people

Sweetling heart moment for today...

I was looking over Ila's notes from CBS yesterday, and she showed me her craft. She studied about Jesus calling His disciples and making them fishers of men, and this is what she had to say about it all...

"Well, Mom, we made this net and put some fish in it. Mrs Leslie and Mrs Penny asked us to write the names of some people we knew who did not know Jesus on the fish. I didn't know any of their really names, so I put the whole people of Saudi Arabia! Remember what we read on Monday?"

Love, love, love how the things we are learning are woven together in Him ♥

Sammy and His Shepherd

The sweetlings and I have a very special book to share with you today! It is one of our most favorite devotion books. We have read it together many times over the past fourteen years, and we just started reading it again today. Sammy and His Shepherd is a simply gorgeous look at the 23rd Psalm. Though written for children, it is a rich, full, and delightful read no matter how many years you have tucked under your belt.

The chapters are brief, broken down into phrases of the Psalm. The story follows a little sheep, Sammy, as he meets and befriends a little sheep with no name who lives in a pasture beside his pasture. She belongs to a shepherd who is quite different from Sammy's shepherd. The writing is gentle and fun while reaching deep to challenge heart and mind with a fresh look at this beloved Scripture. The book also includes a "Talk About It" section for further discussion.

even then

"Christ was never so preoccupied with Himself that He ignored those around Him. Even as He hung on the cross, His concern was for the men hanging next to Him, for the people who had condemned Him, for you and me." ~D Partow

Is my life so full of itself that I have no room for God to work through me? Am I able to see past all of the things I have tucked and packed into my days, to see those around me? To lift them to the Father? To notice that they may be drowning in cares and burdens and hurt? To have time to be available to help when God would send me?

O for space and peace and the gift of seeing ♥
